Have You Talked to Your Customers?

As an entrepreneur, you should be continuously talking to your customers for essential feedback regarding the market for your products and services and how your business can provide them with the value they are seeking. This feedback loop starts and ends with you, and there are great ways to begin this by simply asking important questions based on their needs and the value you’re trying to provide them. This session covers the best way to engage with your potential customers at the beginning and on an on-going basis – by talking to them! Using “Talk to Humans” by Giff Constable as a guide, you’ll learn the framework of how to go out and ask key questions that are crucial for the success of your business’ products and services in the marketplace. This is by far the best way to test your Value Proposition and get valuable market intelligence directly from your target customer audiences. We will also start exploring the creation of your Minimum Viable Product which will be built upon in future weeks.

Session activities and materials:

• Validate and Test Your Assumptions
• Interview Techniques for Customer Research
• Approach and Frame Questions for Customer Interviews
• Position Your Idea for Discovery-based Conversations
• The Spa Treatment – Justin Wilcox
• Test Methods and Overcome Biases with worksheets – in class individual and group work
• Homework – assigned for class review in Week 4

Whether you have experience with engaging with customers or not, you will pick up a few tips that will help with your market validation process.
